Right, so I've been thinking lately and found that it was time for some new lesson! This time I have a Cat Guy instead of a Cat Girl (simply because I found the boy somewhere in te mess of my room).
Well, I've checked out my very first lesson ever and decided to show how to start a head easily, it's like this:
1) Draw a circle and separate it in two with a line.
2) Draw these guidelines in the circle (make sure that the lower line isn't too much up in the face, same counts for the upper line!!!)
3) Draw the true shape of the face now (unless you prefer the circle-face...)
Alright! I hope after the head you're ready for the rest, since the second step is a big one: drawing the body!!!
There, now don't give up hope... let's start! Finish th face first by giving this little guy eyes, ears and of course the starting lines for his eyebrows. Your head's done for so far.
The body...our boy is three heads tall. It's smart to draw those lines to see how tall he's gotta be. We'll start with the upper body: As you can see, his torso is about 3/4 heads long. Start with his neck, then draw the middle-of-the-body-guideline (marked with a 'b') to see where the middle of his body is. Now you can draw the lines marked with an 'a' to help you ith the shoulders and the hips. Take a good look now and draw the torso, which is in fact nothing more but a strange kind of rectangle, you see that??? Now it's easily done, init? Don't forget to draw thse freaky ellipses in the torso will you!
There, you've got the torso!!! ^^
Now time for the arms an the legs. As you can see his left arm is hidden, only his shoulder and his hand are visible. This chibi barely shows an elbow at his right arm, and it's not necessary either to clearly show it.
The leg in the front starts at where the middle-of-the-body-line ends, while the other starts there at the line of the lower ellips drawn in the torso. The knees start little below the line of the "two-heads" length.
And then, at last but not at least, the tail. Metion that the tail is an extension of the spine, and not just something that's stuck to his butt!!! (for the Dutch people who didn't understand my last sentence: de staart is het verlengde van de ruggenwervel en niet zomaar iets wat aan z'n kont vast zit!!!)
Time for step 2! This is an easy one, one in which we do erase some from now on quite useless lines. This is what it's supposed to look like after:
I've earased several lines, so we can carry on without making our picture look like a mess...
Step 3: Let's put some detail in our cat, for it doesn't quite look like a cat does it? You'll have to let your own fantasy go here and create your own clothes and stuff. I've made up an example for you, otherwise I won't be able to carry on with the lesson. NOTE: Don't use too much detail, because for al chibi's counts simplicity!!!
You should give him a split mouth, which is typical cat-like and make his face and ears look hairy. Play withthe tail, you can keep it wild or tidy, like a house-cat. As you see I liked to give him an Arabian look, I thought it'd fit...
Now whenyou've finished this too, we can go on to the next step! ;D
Step 4: Of course this one sketch with a lot of clothes on, looks messy. So, I redrew him and made sure that it all wouldn't look messy at all. I coloured the parts I want to colour with my grey pencil.
Shading it isn't necessary yet, just make sure you can see all of the lines well! Okay, next! We're going quickly!
Step 5: You're going to need your steady hand for this. Take your fineliners out and draw it all over!
At last give it a colour of course. Shade it a bit, and there, it's done! Now was that so hard?
NOTE: The eyes are pink here, but they're supposed to be orange, I'm colouring the pc with paint at the moment and then you'll clearly see it as soon as I've got it done!
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
